Treatment following traffic injuries and accidents
Last year alone, there were over 22,000 traffic accidents in Poland, leaving more than 26,000 people injured. Many of the injured face long-term consequences of their trauma and, after possible hospitalization, require further diagnostics and outpatient treatment, followed by rehabilitation to restore full fitness. In the meantime, waiting lines to see specialists continue to grow longer, and there is an average wait of about six months for National Health Service (NHF) rehabilitation, which delays recovery and thus return to work.
Road accidents most often result in spinal injuries, broken bones, dislocated joints, and soft tissue damage. In any case, the injured should receive specialist care as soon as possible for thorough diagnosis and treatment. Rehabilitation is also typically required, and its outcome depends on how soon the injured person begins it following the accident.
- For the benefit of the victims of traffic incidents, we have launched the “Post Traffic Accident Treatment “ health plan. After receiving the necessary urgent care or emergency assistance and completing any hospitalization, the insured is provided with support from a TU Zdrowie Medical Consultant. The Medical Consultant “guides” the insured step by step to help him or her through the process of further continuation of treatment and rehabilitation - says Teresa Domańska, Director of TU Zdrowie’s Health Insurance Office.
The “Post Traffic Accident Treatment” health plan is offered to any TU Zdrowie insured who, during the coverage period, suffers an injury as a result of a traffic accident in which he or she was involved as a driver, passenger or pedestrian. Health insurance guarantees him or her access to specialists and a wide range of laboratory and diagnostic tests anywhere in Poland where a commercially-providing medical facility is available.
For the delivery of the health plan’s benefits to start, the insured must send an application to start the plan, as well as medical documentation confirming the occurrence of an illness caused by a traffic accident, including provision of pre-hospital or hospital first aid, a copy of the documentation of a police traffic accident report, or a copy of documentation kept by the municipal police, court or prosecutor’s office.
- Once the plan is activated, the insured is contacted by a Medical Consultant who, if necessary, will ask for additional clarification or missing medical documentation, and answer any questions or concerns about how to proceed. The Consultant, who is a kind of assistant for the insured, will then guide him or her through the process of diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation, point out the facility cooperating with TU Zdrowie and the appropriate doctor, and then agree and schedule the optimal appointment - says Teresa Domańska, Director of TU Zdrowie’s Health Insurance Office.
Under the “Post Traffic Accident Treatment” health plan, the insured is guaranteed to receive:
- Nursing treatments
- Medical treatments
- Medical consultations, including consultations with professors
- Laboratory tests
- Ultrasound examinations (ultrasound)
- Radiological examinations (X-ray)
- Functional examinations
- Outpatient rehabilitation – limit of 40 treatments per insured event
- Computed tomography examinations
- Magnetic resonance imaging examinations
At TU Zdrowie, the insureds, depending on their needs, can also join other health plans, including but not limited to:
“My Orthopedist,” targeted at the insureds who have sustained fractures of a bone or dislocation of a joint during the coverage period. Its goal is to bring the injured person back to early physical activity.
“Continuation of Inpatient Treatment,” targeted at the insureds treated in hospital for more than 7 days, regardless of the reason for hospitalization. Its purpose is to support further outpatient treatment once hospital treatment is completed.
