How to protect yourself against a tick-bite
There are effective repellents available. The recommended ones are: permethrin used to impregnate clothes, and icaridin that can be used directly on skin. It is worth remembering that the bacteria Borrelia live in tick’s intestines and transform into an invasive form when they come into contact with the blood drunk by the tick, which takes a few hours. After transforming, the Borrelia spirochetes are able to enter human bloodstream in tick’s saliva. The process takes more than 10 hours, so if you manage to remove the tick before that time the infection will not take place. That is why whenever you return from a forest or a wetland you should do a thorough check up of your body and if you come across a tick simply remove it as soon as possible. If you do it within 24 hours, the risk of containing Lyme disease is slim.
